Ros Perton Ceramics

Originally a Fine Art Graduate, after 30 years of conference and exhibition organising, I became fascinated by the history and cultural significance of clay items.  This led to learning about making with clay in adult education.  I went on to complete an MA in ceramics in 2009.

Most of the vessels are wheel-thrown, some altered whilst the clay is still plastic.

Porcelain is used for the fine smooth cool look and feel, and for its ability to respond to ambient light and colour.  Other clays are used to exploit distinctive textural properties for visual and tactile effect.

I am interested in the hierarchy of materials and what makes things precious to people.
